Exhibition is one of the most important parts of a museum because it allows public to employ space in order to learn and gain new experience, resulting in inspiration and further development. The PSU Museum displays exhibitions in the museum building, also known as ‘Dinosaurs Building’ due to 3 dinosaur sculptures in front of the building. This building has 6 zones of exhibition.
Outdoor
Outdoor area allows pedestrians, in particular students and personnel of Prince of Songkla University to explore the exhibition during their walk. Display objects outdoor need to be quite durable or they could be living flora or sets of ecosystem. The exhibitions include types of rock, beach flora and riparian ecosystem.
Atrium
Atrium is the large area at the entrance of the museum building. Normally, this area is for gathering audiences for a short brief before starting the tour. There are several small exhibitions in this area, including freshwater and seawater aquaria, models of sharks and rays and an exhibition about missions of the museum.
1st Floor: The Origin
This zone exhibits about the origin of nature. It explains how the universe began until the origin of life and evolution. The contents are arranged chronologically so audiences can understand the story of the earth from the beginning to now. The exhibitions include space and stars, geology, rocks and minerals, geography, the origin of life and evolution, fossils, geological timescale and carboniferous nature trail.
Mezzanine: Amazing Nature
This floor features frequently changing temporary exhibitions that allow visitors to learn new and updated things. Furthermore, there is an exhibition about evolution of human so they can learn where and what we are from.
2nd Floor: Diversity of Life
The area is like the heart of the museum because it explains about biodiversity. Most objects displayed here are real specimens, so the audience can feel excited, curious and encouraged to learn. The exhibitions consist of nova taxa, skeletons, corals, arthropods, molluscs, vertebrates and seeds and fruits.
3nd Floor: Ecosystem
Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems are exhibited on this floor to show the relationship between various living organisms and the environments in which they live.
Learn about the different natural environments in Thailand such as marine, mangrove, rocky shore and sand bar, and forest ecosystems. An understanding of these ecosystems will help us to work for and save our environment for future generations to enjoy.
Furthermore, there is an honor exhibition for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The princess has supported natural history research for long time and there are several new discovered species named after her.
