The 2nd APRU Research Symposium on University Museums was a meeting where member universities gathered to share experience in the field of university museum. This year, the symposium was held by the National; University of Taiwan, Taipei, Republic of China.

The theme of the symposium was about the outreach programs that will make the museums become closer to the communities. This conference was attended by participants from over 10 countries in the Pacific Rim, including Japan, South Korea, Republic of China (Taiwan), Canada, USA, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Thailand. Honorably, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum of Prince of Songkla University represented Thailand in this symposium. There were 4 museum’s researchers offering presentations, namely Dr. Pipat Soisook, Mr. Yingyod Lapwong, Ms. Amporn Plubplueng and Ms. Uraiporn Pimsai.

During the conference, participants have presented their research and case studies in their museums in order to provide knowledge and experience to the audiences. Moreover, during the discussion session, several problems were issued, including volunteer program, evaluation of university museums and audience attraction. Although there was no absolute solution for each problem, the discussions might give some ideas that could be applied each own museum.

In addition, the excursion to museums in Taipei also gave attendants examples of museum design and management which will be useful in the future.
